STRENGTH AND cONDITIONING
Strength training and conditioning is (S&C) is a term that has been adapted to include several modalities of exercise. Strength training via Resistance Training (RT) serves as the core, and other modalities of exercise are included depending on the needs of the athlete (Ratamess, 2012: 3)
Strength and Conditioning incorporates a variety of training such as: Weight Training, Plyometric Training, Aerobic Training and Sprint and Agility Training (Ratamess, 2012)

How many S&C sessions a week is needed to achieve overall goal, taking into consideration Periodization and in-season training
How hard the session is taking into consideration work:rest ratios and % of 1RM lifted (if weight training) How much work the athlete does; how many sets in the session, how many exercises in the set and how many repetitions. What type of training is undertaken e.g. resistance training, plyometric training, agility/sprinting or flexibility work Periodization: Macrocycle- The overall plan to achieve sporting goal Mesocycle- When training is split into blocks focusing on training different aspects Microcycle- session based plan; how the session will fit into weekly plan |
